Admedes Schuessler - Precision Machined Nitinol Components

Admedes Schuessler manufactures precision machined Nitinol components such as stents, baskets, parts for catheters, orthopaedic implants and other medical devices. Proprietary machining and finishing techniques ensure a full exploitation of Nitinol's functional properties.

Admedes provides expertise and support for all manufacturing steps from material procurement to the finished customized component. Included are procuring tubing and wire, precision machining, joining, heat treatment, shape design and materials optimization, electro polishing and plating.

Our aim is to serve the growing need for precision components from superelastic and shape memory alloys and other materials for the medical device industry with the highest quality standard and delivery service.

RAPID RESPONSE NITINOL COMPONENT PROTOTYPING

Admedes generates sample and prototype production from sketches or engineering drawings in one week or less. Our rapid response engineering allows for:

  • Early feedback on design and tolerancing as it relates to manufacturability
  • Early feedback on downstream production pricing

(Note: while our delivery time is dependent on material supply, we have an excellent inventory of material as well as relationships with suppliers for fast prototype material delivery.)

NITINOL SURFACE FINISHING

Admedes' proprietary approach to the surface quality of the implant positively impacts biocompatibility, fatigue and corrosion. Electropolishing is the state-of-the-art surface finishing process for medical implants like stents, filters and baskets.

The enormous advantages of electropolished surfaces include:

  • Excellent edge rounding
  • HAZ (Heat Affecting Zone) is removed and surface overall smoothed
  • Surfaces have very high biocompatibility
  • Metal fatigue is greatly reduced
  • Corrosion behaviour is improved compared to non-treated or mechanically polished surfaces (Trepanier et al.)

MEDICAL-GRADE MATERIALS EXPERTISE

Not only has Admedes long been known for outstanding Nitinol processing capabilities and expertise, concurrently we have a long history in other alloys such as cobalt alloys, stainless steel, titanium, tantalum, niobium and other medical grade alloys utilised in medical applications.

  • Nitinol, superelastic alloy (55.8 wt.%Ni)
  • Nitinol, martensitic alloy  (54.5 wt.% Ni)
  • Stainless steel 316 L
  • Niobium
  • Tantalum
  • Titanium and titanium alloys (Ti-6Al-7Nb, Ti-6Al-4V)
  • Cobalt alloys: L-605, MP-35N, elgiloy

Note: We will procure the material for you or you can work with suppliers directly.

LASER MACHINING

State-of-the-art equipment uniquely developed at Admedes allows your designers to focus on clinical applications. Admedes has the highest competence and superior laser technique in the field of large-scale manufacturing of laser micro-cut parts.

Admedes offers a wide variety of beam sources to match specific laser cutting applications.

MICRO JOINING

Complex clinical applications may require complex combinations of engineering materials. Classical riveting of radiodense markers to implants that lack sufficient radiopacity (such as Nitinol) is the gold standard for micro-joining.

Admedes has experience in working with multiple methods for riveting but also has experience in welding of similar and dissimilar materials and in electropolishing of composite materials.

Admedes enhanced processes can be customized to any customer requirements and flexible to work with a variety of component specifications.

QUALITY SYSTEMS

The company is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9000 - 2000 and DIN EN ISO 13485 - 2003. Our quality management system covers FDA requirements like the current GMP QSR guidelines and regulation CFR 21 Part 820. Admedes is also an FDA registered facility.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Admedes provides cutting-edge innovation and support throughout the process from concept generation to large-scale production of advanced micro-machined medical device components. Admedes provides support for development of new materials and new material surface technologies.

Quality Assurance is provided through audit support, support for PMA, IDE & 510k approval process. Production interface assists with customer managed production or vendor managed inventory.

Admedes' rapid response engineering produces sample and prototype production from drawing or engineering sketches in one week or less. Customer components engineering provides implementation of product development of medical devices from prototype phase to large scale manufacturing.
