Avicenna Technology - Laser Machining ServicesAvicenna Technology Inc. employs the practical application of automation and laser energy to achieve precisely machined features in components made of polymers and metals. Avicenna offers outsource solutions to the challenging component concepts that fuel the drive to device miniaturization. LASER MACHINING MEDICAL DEVICES Avicenna's unique capabilities have earned it a place among the leading providers of laser machining medical devices to designers and manufacturers of life enhancing medical devices. Avicenna conducts its ISO certified operations from a 30,000ft², two-storey facility equipped with filtered air exchangers and redundant systems for chilled water and compressed air. Avicenna's 20 laser systems are located on separate floors within its facility, thereby offering operational contingencies to ensure business continuity in the face of a natural disaster. Avicenna utilizes laser wavelengths ranging from the ultraviolet to the infrared to achieve its suite of established machining services. These services include the drilling, ablating, skiving, marking, and cutting of polymers such as Hytrel, polyimide, PEEK, polyurethane, Pebax, silicone, and Teflon; and the welding of metals such as copper, nickel, platinum, nitinol, and stainless steel. Avicenna prides itself on being a customer-focused provider of laser machining services. Avicenna requires no financial commitment from potential customers during the proof-of-concept stages of its product development cycle, feeling that it is unfair to ask for compensation prior to proving capability. Once a product reaches maturity, Avicenna's organization is staffed with product managers that serve as single points of contact to cater to customer needs and ensure the fulfillment of customer requirements. LASER WELDING MEDICAL DEVICES Avicenna has tailored its laser welding medical devices to the 'micro' level achieving sub 0.004in spot welds of disparate metals, attaching coils and electrodes to conductors and guide wires that range in diameter from 0.005in to 0.010in. Avicenna's laser welding has served an enabling role in the development of advanced diagnostic catheters and stimulation leads. LASER MARKING MEDICAL DEVICES Avicenna can laser mark materials such as polyurethane, Teflon, and silicone that have proven difficult to mark permanently with traditional printing methods. Avicenna's laser marking medical devices interact with these polymers to produce a permanent mark within the material wall that will not fade or leech over time. Avicenna can mark logos, barcodes, and serialized alphanumeric text of any font and scale. Avicenna's laser marking service is ideal for creating traceability on implanted devices. LASER MACHINING POLYMERSLaser machining polymers - Avicenna excels in drilling clean holes in polymer materials as different as polyimide, PEEK, polycarbonate, Pellethane, silicone, and Pebax. Avicenna's drilled holes do not delaminate composite layers of material and are free of sharp burrs and raised lips. Manufacturers of flushing and aspirating catheters use Avicenna's laser drilling service to machine features that help control fluid release and vacuum suction. LASER ABLATINGLaser ablating, when done properly, removes material by breaking the material's molecular bonds and does not introduce heat to the process. Avicenna's laser ablation process does not burn or melt material. As a result Avicenna is able to remove materials such as polyimide, Teflon, polyurethane, Nylon, and parylene without discoloring or deforming the adjacent region. LASER SKIVINGSkiving is the term Avicenna uses to describe its process of performing controlled-depth ablation on cylindrical pieces such as tubes and rods. As a sub-set of Avicenna's ablating process, skiving also removes material without discoloring or deforming the underlying and adjacent material. Skiving can create sharp steps or soft transitions in a tube's outside diameter. A tube skived by Avicenna is ideally suited for the subsequent swaging of electrodes or the bonding of a more pliable catheter tip.
