Enercon's surface treatment systems for rolled goods, webs, wires, tubing and other medical devices increase surface energy to promote adhesion for printing, coating, laminating, converting, decorating, painting, labelling, and bonding. IN-LINE SURFACE TREATMENTIn-line surface treatment is a popular and inexpensive choice to increase adhesion, as it is easy to integrate into any production line, and a safe alternative to liquid primers. Successful results have been confirmed with a wide range of engineered plastics including, ABS, ASA, EPD, EVA, FP, HDPE, LDPE, PC, PE, PET, PMMA, PP, PS, PU, PVC, PBT, TPU, TPO, FEP, PTFE, and PFA. ATMOSPHERIC PLASMA AND FLAME SURFACE TREATING TECHNOLOGIESEnercon offers a wide variety of surface treating technologies; atmospheric plasma, variable chemistry plasma, flame and ozone. We invite you to take advantage of Enercon’s complimentary lab testing. Based on your application variables we will provide you with an unbiased recommendation of the best technology for your application. Our experience with medical device applications ensures a smooth and effective trial process. VARIABLE CHEMICAL PLASMA TREATMENTFor ultimate treatment results consider the benefits of atmospheric variable chemistry plasma treatment. This is a powerful yet gentle treatment process which does not harm delicate surfaces, but cleans, etches and improves surface adhesion. Enercon uses unique gas combinations to deposit various chemical groups on surfaces, improving surface energy. It is essentially a fine etching and functionalizing process that provides different surface characteristics depending on the gas chemistry employed. Variable chemistry plasma is formed using basic principles found in air plasma and flame plasma treatment. A chemistry plasma field is generated in an electrically charged atmosphere. This method relies on other gases that deposit various chemical groups on the substrate surface to improve its surface energy. These advanced systems are ideal for hard-to-treat materials; their plasma delivery systems can be configured to treat virtually any surface. AIR PLASMA – ELIMINATE THE NEED FOR CHEMICAL PRIMNGAir plasma produced by the high performance Dyne-A-Mite HP™ provides increased surface energy that meets the needs of most printing and bonding applications. It produces blown arc air plasma by blowing air past two high voltage powered electrodes. This plasma is sometimes referred to as corona treatment. The electrical discharge positively charges the ion particles surrounding it through direct contact; these particles positively charge the treated area of the object's surface. This makes the surface more receptive to any applied substance such as inks. FLAME PLASMA – INCREASE SURFACE ENERGYThe two main components of any flame plasma treatment system are the burner and the combustion control system. Enercon’s Dyne-A-Flame™ treated surface features application specific high velocity burner designs, along with sophisticated combustion control to ensure reliable and repeatable treatment. Flame plasma is formed when flammable gas and atmospheric air are combined and combusted to form an intense blue flame. The surfaces of objects are made polar as species in the flame plasma effect the distribution and density of electrons on the surface. This polarization is made through oxidation. In addition, certain functional groups are deposited on the surface of these substrates. Flame plasma generates more heat than other treatment processes, but it also offers higher and longer lasting treatment levels. Flame treatment is commonly used in processing of injection and blow moulded products because of the thickness, size and shape of the parts. These systems are generally used when treating larger, heavier items, a higher surface energy level or longer storage life is required.
