Massachusetts Materials Research - Medical Device and Materials Testing

Massachusetts Materials Research (MMR) is an independent materials testing and engineering company that provides third party materials and product testing services, failure analysis, materials engineering, materials research and consulting, life-study testing, and expert witness services.

MMR is a fully equipped, 22,000ft² laboratory facility with a professional staff that is experienced in a wide range of technical disciplines. These include metallurgy, materials science, materials testing, mechanical testing and engineering, analytical chemistry, electron microscopy, and non-destructive testing.

An employee owned (ESOP) testing and engineering firm, we have been providing independent professional services since 1961, as part of the MMR Group, Inc. The group consists of three independent divisions, each with its own laboratory facility, professional staff, and multiple accreditations that provide laboratory services and professional consulting activities to a variety markets and locations.

MEDICAL DEVICE VALIDATION

From conception and design, throughout the manufacturing process, to final product launch, MMR can help with materials selection, certification, compatibility, and validation. Our professional staff has extensive experience with metals and alloys, polymers, ceramics, composites and biomaterials.

Whether you are new to the medical device market, a well-established manufacturer, a supplier to medical device OEMs, or a design engineer, our materials testing, engineering, and consulting services can help you succeed in bringing a product or device to market.

MATERIALS TESTING

MMR provides routine quality assurance and conformity assessment testing and analysis to numerous client requirements, prime contractor specifications, and commercial industry standards.

We provide services to the medical device industry, the aerospace and military industries, commercial manufacturing industries, the power industry, municipalities, law firms, and insurance companies.

MEDICAL IMPLANT FAILURE ANALYSIS

Through medical implant failure analysis our experts specialize in determining the root cause and origin of product, device, or structural problems resulting from material failure, corrosion, improper fabrication, design deficiencies, abuse, misuse, and other causes.

Having performed numerous failure investigations, our experts have acquired a broad depth of understanding related to a variety of medical products and processes. Projects such as the radiopacity determination of EKG electrodes, investigation of a cardiac catheterization manifold that encountered air leakage during surgery, the premature failure of a titanium cervical spine locking plate, and the fracture of an anesthetic needle in a patients jaw, are just a few of the problems solved by MMR.

Whether faced with design issues, manufacturing challenges, or post-market field service failures. MMR has the experience and knowledge to help you solve problems and to provide corrective action plans.

TECHNICAL CONSULTING

We utilize systematic analysis to determine the root cause of failures and solve material, process, and product problems. Our consulting services specialize in improving the safety, reliability, and performance of products and systems. Although we cover a broad spectrum of applications and utilize a wide range of analytical techniques, they frequently will include one of the following:

  • Failure analysis: determining why a product, component, or structure has broken, worn out, or prematurely failed. Identifying what concern is responsible for the failure and then providing corrective action plans to prevent future recurrence.
  • Simulated service life study testing: placing a product or component under accelerated conditions of simulated in-service usage to determine expected service life or verify reliability.
  • Materials engineering: by combining our knowledge of materials with modern engineering analysis, we can assess the mechanical forces that act upon structures and components.

As an employee owned company, MMR offer a unique team vested in your success.
