Smithers Rapra, the leading specialist in polymer and composite consultancy, analysis and testing, is glad to announce the appointment of Dr Andrew Feilden to the position of principal consultant within the consultancy centre at the European headquarters site near Shrewsbury, West Midlands, UK.
Commenting on the new appointment, Smithers Rapra's operations and consultancy director, Stephen Vinter, said: "Specifically, Dr Feilden will focus on extractable and leachable testing and the selection and assessment of materials for medical and pharmaceutical applications."
Andrew brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having worked for 12 years at AstraZeneca leading the in-house extractable and leachable testing. He specialised in trace analysis using hyphenated techniques and analytical trouble shooting. Stephen Vinter added: "Andrew brings strong technical skills to the European consultancy team and we are looking forward to the contribution he will make in developing our pharmaceutical and medical sector further."
Dr Andrew Feilden represented AstraZeneca on a number of international working groups, including the IPAC-RS (International Pharmaceutical Aerosol Consortium on Regulation and Science) container closure group and as co-chair of the ELSIE (Extractable and Leachable Safety Information Exchange) materials information sub group. He has co-authored extractable and leachable sections of a number of regulatory submissions NDA (New Drug Application) and MAA (Marketing Authorisation Application) for a range of pharmaceutical container closure systems. In addition he has authored other non extractable and leachable regulatory submissions; e.g. IMPD (Investigational Medicinal Product Dossier).
Dr Feilden is widely published, including patents, a book, articles and numerous conference presentations. He has also gained a degree and D.Phil from York University, for a study into the alkylation of salicylic acid.
