Carole Parsons

Carole Parsons graduated from Queen's University Belfast in 2002 with a First Class Honours degree in Pharmacy, and completed her pre-registration training in both hospital and community pharmacy practice. In 2003 she returned to the school to undertake a PhD in pharmaceutics, in the area of biomaterials and drug delivery.

The aim of this research programme was to develop porphyrin-impregnated biomaterials as potential intraocular lens materials and/or coatings for the prevention of infectious endophthalmitis, a potentially devastating sight-threatening complication of cataract surgery. She submitted her thesis in 2006 and was appointed as a full-time Teaching Fellow in the School of Pharmacy, but has remained active in the biomaterials and drug delivery research area.
