Dr Robert Langer

As one of just 14 Institute Professors at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Dr Robert Langer has enjoyed a distinguished career. He holds more than 600 patents licensed and sublicensed to as many as 200 pharmaceutical and medical device companies. He has received global recognition for his work and been awarded over 160 major awards, culminating in the 2008 Millennium Prize. Since receiving his degree in chemical engineering in 1974 Langer has held numerous senior positions, including his time as a member of the US FDA's SCIENCE Board from 1995–2002 and as its chairman from 1999–2002. His research facility at MIT, Langer Lab, is believed to be one of the largest research facilities in the world.
