Dr Paul Goodman is senior materials consultant, reliability and failure analysis at ERA Technology Ltd. He provides consultancy on the EU WEEE and RoHS directives and is assisting a growing number of clients to deal with their implications. He regularly presents papers on RoHS compliance issues at international conferences.

He has led an investigation into compliance with the RoHS directive for the UK Department of Trade and Industry on behalf of the RoHS Technical Adaptation Committee, and regularly advises the Department of Trade and Industry on issues relating to electrical equipment and legislation.

He carried out an investigation into exemptions to the RoHS directive for the European Commission in 2004 and has recently completed a review of categories 8 and 9 for possible future inclusion in the scope of the RoHS directive.
