Poland's Ministry of Health has chosen CaridianBCT's Mirasol Pathogen Reduction Technologies System to improve the safety of its fresh frozen plasma supply.
The Mirasol system uses ultraviolet light and the unique properties of riboflavin (vitamin B2) to inactivate any viruses, bacteria and parasites present in blood products.
Poland's largest blood centre, the Warsaw Blood Bank, has already started using the system for both fresh frozen plasma and platelets stored in plasma.
Another seven Polish blood centres have started implementing the system for the treatment of fresh frozen plasma.
