Medical devices firm Zoll Medical has secured Health Canada approval for marketing and distribution of its automated external defibrillators (AEDs) Zoll AED 3 and the Zoll AED 3 basic life support (BLS).

Designed to improve outcomes for cardiac arrest patients, the AEDs provide real-time feedback of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) through the Real CPR Help technology.

The technology employs audio and visual means to prompt the rescuers for effective chest compressions.

Suitable for both adult and pediatric patients, the devices contain a single five year universal CPR electrode pad to ensure ease of use and improve the total cost of ownership.

Zoll global Resuscitation division president Ernest Whiton said: “We are extremely excited to add the Zoll AED 3 and the Zoll AED 3 BLS to our portfolio of automated external defibrillators.

“With the addition of these new devices, we are able to offer our public access and BLS customers an even more comprehensive line of AEDs and the latest tools to better manage their AEDs’ readiness and access to clinical event data.”

The Zoll AED 3 can connect to Programme Management Onboard through wifi to allow remote management and monitoring of the device.

The ZOLL AED 3 BLS has a CPR Dashboard, which shows critical information, including the rate and depth of each compression.

Claimed to deliver a fast shock following each chest compressions period, the device is also wifi-enabled to allow export of clinical event data and delivery of the patient record directly to health care providers.
