Boston Scientific is a multinational manufacturer of medical devices that is recognized for Environmental, M&A, Product Launches and Research and Development in the 2022 Medical Device Network Excellence Awards.

Much of the company’s recent M&A activity has been technology-driven. The American multinational acquired Devoro Medical, the creators of the WOLF Thrombectomy platform, which is a non-console and lytic-free solution for treating blood clots. Lumenis’ surgical business has been another notable addition to Boston Scientific’s asset portfolio, with the company hoping to gain a competitive edge in medical laser and invasive treatment solutions. Boston Scientific also acquired the Baylis Medical Company and its cardiology business.

The company has been active in the field of research and development, with a particular focus on cardiac solutions and has launched its mCRM System which utilises two complementary cardiac rhythm management systems. This approach ensures both modularity and excellent cardiac death prevention. The company is also aiming to add a non-valvular atrial fibrillation solution to its device portfolio, the solution is called WATCHMAN FLX and no cases of device embolisation or pericardial effusion have been linked to it so far. Boston Scientific has also been focusing on invasive treatment devices and has released a single-use bronchoscope and an internal radiation therapy device.

The company has also made efforts to comply with the EPA’s new ethylene oxide emissions rules to ensure a more environmentally friendly device manufacture process.
