As part of a proof-of-concept feasibility study, Wideblue worked with Anasyst and the University of Teesside to design a point-of-care technology demonstrator for the early detection of Sepsis. The point of care prototype device would be used with a number of biomarkers, which were to be developed in parallel by the client.

Our Approach

The device and consumable were developed by Wideblue and integrated the client’s patented optical system to create a technology demonstrator for clinical evaluation.

Wideblue was responsible for:

  • The mechanical design of the cartridge and reader
  • Electronics design of the sensing head and light sources
  • Firmware control for consumable indexing system
  • Manufacture of a single prototype for clinical evaluation purposes
  • Optical design and simulation

Solution

The device was used as part of a clinical evaluation at an NHS hospital laboratory, a number of biomarkers were developed in parallel by the client and tested with the device. The prototype reader device proved to be low cost, reliable with a high level of sensitivity compared with similar reader devices.
