Total medical devices industry cross border M&A deals worth $818.5m were announced in Europe Q4 2020, led by Exact Sciences’ $410m acquisition of Base Genomics, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 74.46% over the previous quarter and a drop of 46.9% when compared with the last four-quarter average of $1.54bn.

Europe held an 18.19% share of the global medical devices industry cross border M&A deal value that totalled $4.5bn in Q4 2020. With a 17.52% share and deals worth $788.48m, the UK was the top country in Europe’s cross border M&A deal value across medical devices industry.

In terms of deal activity, Europe recorded 25 cross border deals during Q4 2020, marking a flat growth over the previous quarter and a rise of 13.64% over the last four-quarter average. The UK recorded ten deals during the quarter.
