The value marked a decrease of 41.1% over the previous month and a drop of 82.9% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $2.85bn.

Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $290.3m. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $170.3m.

In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for medical devices industry M&A deals globally, followed by Europe and then Middle East and Africa.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in April 2019 was the US with ten deals, followed by the UK with three and Canada with two.

In 2019, as of the end of April 2019, medical devices M&A deals worth $8.71bn were announced globally, marking an increase of 28.9% year on year.

The top five medical devices industry M&A deals accounted for 96% of the overall value during April 2019.

The combined value of the top five medical devices industry M&A deals stood at $467.21m, against the overall value of $486.68m recorded for the month. The top announced medical devices industry M&A deal tracked by GlobalData in April 2019 was Medline Industries’ $167.5m asset transaction with AngioDynamics.

In second place was the $120m acquisition of GenePOC by Meridian Bioscience and in third place was Bando Chemical Industries’ $94.63m acquisition of Aimedic MMT.

The $66.66m acquisition of CenterVue by Revenio Italy and Northgate Public Services’ asset transaction with EMIS Group for $18.42m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
