London-based telehealth start-up HealthHero has acquired Parisian medical video consultation firm Qare for an undisclosed amount.
The acquisition cements HealthHero as the largest telehealth provider in Europe, now covering 22 million patients and on track to provide just under three million consultations in 2021.
Qare was founded in 2016 and has been one of the leaders in digital healthcare access in France.
In 2020, Qare acquired Doctopsy, making it France’s leading provider of digital mental health care.
HealthHero CEO and co-founder Ranjan Singh said: “This is the most significant telehealth acquisition in Europe in recent times, and firmly secures HealthHero’s dominance in the growing telehealth sector.
“With up to 70-80% of all GP consultations across Europe able to be delivered remotely, this is just the beginning of HealthHero’s growth potential. By working with the best in each market, we are aiming to deliver the best patient outcomes across the continent for each and every one of these consultations.”
The Qare acquisition is HealthHero’s third in less than six months, having bought UK-based Doctorlink in December. Doctorlink provides digital triage and health risk assessment services, and facilitates care for around 12.5 million patients across 1,500 GP surgeries across the UK’s National Health Service.
In January, HealthHero acquired Irish direct-to-consumer telehealth platform MyClinic, which provides online repeat prescriptions, digital mental health services, physiotherapy and video consultations.
Qare CEO Olivier Thierry said: “Europe is seeing an explosion of telehealth businesses. We are convinced that tomorrow’s healthtech champions will be European. We share with HealthHero a common European vision for quality and innovative care accessible to all, powered by technology.”
HealthHero now provides services in the UK, Germany, Ireland and France.
The company claims to have the most diverse array of telehealth products across different markets and services, with direct-to-consumer, b2b and business-to-government services.
The platform also provides a holistic clinical offering, including GP support, prescription services, mental health consultations and musculoskeletal specialists.
HealthHero launched its telehealth platform in August 2020 in partnership with London-based investment house Marcol, at which time it also announced the acquisition of Berlin-based telemedicine platform Fernarzt.com.
