HeartIn is a medical technology company which was founded in Silicon Valley, California, by Oleksii Vynogradov and Dmytro Fedkov. It was created in response to health problems witnessed in the country of Ukraine, where both co-founders are based, and a personal tragedy which led to the co-founders wanting to aid in the early diagnosis of cardiovascular disease.

Ukraine has the world’s second highest coronary disease death rate and coronary disease is the leading cause of death in the country. HeartIn’s co-founders believe that their HeartIn Remote Portable 12 Lead ECG Device could minimise deadly time delays when getting cardiovascular patients to hospital as it can monitor a patient at home while being read remotely by doctors.

HeartIn now produces a number of ECG products but one of its most innovative is the HeartIn Fit smart t-shirt, which can connect to an app for portable ECG tracking. This wearable tech retails at $250 on the HeartIn website. Vynogradov explains how the technology works and why he thinks it is the future of ECG.

The Future of ECG

Charlotte Edwards: How does the HeartIn Fit smart t-shirt technology work?

Oleksii Vynogradov: This technology is based on well-known technology called ECG, or electrocardiogram. Existing medical devices ask you to clip electrodes directly to the skin, which is very uncomfortable, while using HeartIn Fit, people just wear a t-shirt.

Data from the t-shirt is received by the device, which connects using Bluetooth to a mobile phone. There is an app, which shows the user’s regular fitness information: HR and extended information, stress level, fatigue level and recovery/challenging level.

All records are then sent to the server, where they are analysed using AI to detect cardiovascular diseases.

CE: What are the benefits of this product when compared to standard ECG machines?

OV: We do three things. One, it’s much more comfortable. Two, it’s ten times cheaper. Three, the built-in AI diagnostic saves time for doctors.

CE: Is it recommended by doctors?

OV: It depends on the case. Usually yes, but customers can purchase products directly. Our mission is to bring top preventive diagnostics to save lives. I guess people can initiate this process directly.

CE: Do you think your product is the future of ECG?

OV: I think so. The market is now moving very slowly to more comfortable models like HeartIn Fit, because they don’t have any competition; the prescription-based market requires a high amount of investment.

But if consumers will push this process forward by using HeartIn Fit, we can change the market altogether.

CE: What’s next for the company?

OV: Now we are testing a new, extended version of HeartIn Fit Pro – with a five-electrode t-shirt and 12-lead electrodes device. We are now looking for institutional partners to go to market together.

Mental health cases also will be a driver next year for us. Our partnership program for researchers is growing very quickly. We expect to build a lot of amazing features on top of ECG/HRV [heart rate variability] next year.
