Canada-based healthcare company Bionik Laboratories has launched the InMotion ARM/HAND robotic system, designed to aid in the clinical rehabilitation of stroke survivors.

The device is also intended for patients with mobility impairments caused due to neurological disorders.

Based on motor learning and neuro-plasticity, the new generation InMotion system uses artificial intelligence (AI) and data analysis to offer personalised therapy and reports.

“The device comes with optimised report formats, allowing improved patient outcomes documentation, ease of use and interpretation of evaluation results.”

InMotion ARM/HAND offers hand opening and grasping therapy for patients who are required to retrain on reach and grasp functional tasks.

Furthermore, the system enables precise and objective evaluation of hand movements. This feature is expected to aid clinicians in better assessment of patient progress and therapy response.

In addition, the device comes with optimised report formats, allowing improved patient outcomes documentation, ease of use and interpretation of evaluation results.

The company expects the new report formats to deliver clearer indications of rehabilitation progress.

Bionik Laboratories CEO Eric Dusseux said: “The goal of our new generation InMotion ARM/HAND is to enable rehabilitation facilities to enhance their treatment programmes for patients recovering from stroke or other neurological injury who are ready to retrain reach and grasp functionality.

“Along with the improved reporting capabilities, we believe our innovative technology will enable clinicians to improve the patient rehabilitation process and achieve greater recovery for stroke survivors.”

The company primarily offers robotic rehabilitation and mobility solutions for patients with neurological and mobility conditions.

InMotion ARM/HAND expands Bionik InMotion Robots portfolio, which consists of InMotion ARM designed for traumatic brain injury patients and InMotion WRIST for interactive rehabilitation.

InMotion therapy guides a patient through specific tasks to improve motor control of the arm and hand. The robotic systems have been marketed in more than 15 countries.
