Johnson & Johnson subsidiary DePuy Synthes has announced the Europe, Middle East and Africa launch of its ATTUNE Revision Knee System, which complements the ATTUNE Primary Knee System and aims to provide surgeons with a comprehensive solution for knee replacement.

The system was unveiled at the 19th European Federation of the National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology Congress, which took place in Barcelona from 30 May to 1 June.

Approximately 6% of patients who undergo knee replacement surgery will require revision surgery ten years after the first procedure. The ATTUNE Revision Knee System aims to address some of the challenges associated with these revision surgeries through improved kinematics, fixation and patient fit. It has both fixed-bearing and rotating platform options.

ATTUNE GRADIUS Curve is designed to address the unnatural sliding of the femur on the tibia and create smooth motion and stability during everyday activities, and GLIDERIGHT Articulation has been designed to enable the ATTUNE knee design to more accurately replicate the normal patella-femoral kinematics of the patient’s native knee.

Nottingham City Hospital consultant orthopaedic surgeon Mr Peter James said: “The ATTUNE Revision Knee System is a step forward for patients – the system feels like a primary total knee intraoperatively and patients experience a smooth range of motion.

“From a clinical perspective, the benefit of using the same system for primary and revision knee replacement procedures provides greater options for complex primary procedures and can lead to a smoother learning curve for surgeons and the wider hospital team.”
