Medical audio solutions provider GN Hearing and Google have partnered to support direct audio streaming from Android devices to hearing aids.

Through this technology alliance, the partners intend to offer a full spectrum of streaming for users of the ReSound LiNX Quattro hearing aid. This support will be extended to Beltone Amaze in a future Android release.

The offerings will allow users to connect their hearing aids to Android devices, which will allow tracking of the aids without any intermediate products for streaming.

“Through this technology alliance, the partners intend to offer a full spectrum of streaming for users of the ReSound LiNX Quattro hearing aid.”

GN Hearing CEO Anders Hedegaard said: “We are honoured to partner with Google for this important development, which will enable direct streaming for even more hearing aid users through their Android devices.”

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 466 million people are living with disabling hearing loss globally. It is estimated that the number will reach 900 million by 2050.

Google Engineering vice-president Seang Chau added: “Google is working with GN Hearing to create a new open specification for hearing aid streaming support on future versions of Android devices.”

A new hearing aid specification for Android smartphones has been published by Google, and GN Hearing is said to be the first hearing aid manufacturer to leverage this specification.

GN Hearing unveiled the ReSound LiNX Quattro and Beltone Amaze hearing aids earlier this month.

ReSound LiNX Quattro features new Layers of Sound technology, enhanced streaming capabilities, remote device fine-tuning and advanced rechargeable battery.

Beltone Amaze also comes with similar functionalities, along with a new processor chip platform for better processing and memory. The chip platform is also said to minimise battery consumption.

Both the hearing aids are set to be launched in September.
