Medical device company 410 Medical has introduced its hand-powered LifeFlow Rapid Infuser device in the US, for fluid delivery to critically ill patients with conditions such as sepsis and shock.

Through its new device, the firm aims to offer fast and efficient fluid delivery during various pediatric, adult and military emergencies.

Designed to deliver 10ml of compression fluid per cycle, the LifeFlow infuser enables delivery of 500ml of fluid to a patient within two and a half minutes.

The device automatically refills with fluid when the trigger is released and the volume of the fluid delivered can be measured by counting the number of cycles.

410 Medical co-founder and chief medical officer Mark Piehl said: "We know that early and aggressive fluid therapy can be one of the most important interventions in life-threatening illnesses like sepsis.

"Our most common infusion methods are often slow and ineffective in emergency situations, and currently available rapid infusion techniques are complex and expensive.

"Our most common infusion methods are often slow and ineffective in emergency situations, and currently available rapid infusion techniques are complex and expensive."

"The LifeFlow Rapid Infuser offers an intuitive and affordable solution to this critical challenge."

The top portion of the device is transparent for the easy visibility of the syringe contents and  graduation markings to the users, while the handle is designed to provide tactile feedback to allow detection of changes in resistance to flow.

With the clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration secured in August last year, the firm has conducted an early evaluation pilot study of the device and a limited market release was initiated in November.
