Masimo has launched its new Rad-97 Pulse CO-Oximeter, following 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), to non-invasively and continuously monitor patients.

Integrated with NomoLine capnography and non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) measurement from SunTech Medical, the new device features Motion and Low Perfusion SET pulse oximetry, as well as rainbow technologies.

Rad-97 has a standalone monitor with a high-resolution, multi-touch colour display designed for advanced customisability, connectivity and device integration.

Masimo founder and CEO Joe Kiani said: "Rad-97 brings together our core SET and rainbow technologies with advanced, workflow-enhancing connectivity solutions.

“We believe it will be an indispensable addition to many healthcare environments, including lower-acuity settings in hospitals, alternate care, and telehealth."

The device includes a rechargeable battery that lasts for about four hours and an option for tetherless device transport, allowing its use even without access to power and in limited space.

Rad-97’s built-in WiFi capability allows a wireless connection and transfer of captured patient data to hospital electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

The co-oximeter is compatible with existing nurse call systems and also supports point-to-point Bluetooth connection with select devices such as thermometers, glucometers, and weight scales.

"We believe it will be an indispensable addition to many healthcare environments, including lower-acuity settings in hospitals, alternate care, and telehealth."

An optional camera is also available with the device to allow a high-resolution video and audio feed, as well as remote communication with Patient SafetyNet software.

Rad-97 with capnography includes an integrated ISA CO2 module with NomoLine sampling lines for sidestream capnography.

The device displays continuous end-tidal carbon dioxide (EtCO2) monitoring, while NomoLine capnography with moisture-wicking technology minimises delay in the low and high-range measurement of respiration rate and incidence of filter line occlusions.

Rad-97 offers NIBP measurement modes for monitoring of oscillometric blood pressure, including spot-check, as well as automatic and stat interval.
