US-based Mevion Medical Systems has entered a strategic agreement to integrate its MEVION S250i with HYPERSCAN technology into Austria-based medPhoton's ImagingRing.
MEVION S250i uses pencil beam scanning proton therapy, while ImagingRing is a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) system designed for volumetric image guidance.
The integration is expected to simplify the workflow and deliver efficient and accurate treatment.
medPhoton chief executive officer (CEO) and founder Heinz Deutschmann said: “The agreement with Mevion provides us with the opportunity to integrate the industry's most compact proton therapy system with our slim, multi-purpose in-room CBCT system.
"It provides a large field-of-view, cutting-edge acquisition speed, spatial resolution, and outstanding low-contrast visibility at very low doses.
“We believe the products will complement each other and enable clinicians to truly optimise the proton treatments they can provide their patients.”
The addition of CBCT imaging to Mevion’s Verity image-guided patient positioning system will allow more precise and adaptive techniques.
The anatomical changes can be monitored throughout the treatment period, which enables clinicians to adapt their medical care to ensure accurate delivery of the proton dose.
The MEVION S250 Series, Verity Patient Positioning System and ImagingRing, along with Mevion’s 6D robotic treatment couch, facilitate detailed tumour and organ imaging.
