Canon Group’s Toshiba Medical company has launched its new computed tomography (CT) system, Aquilion Prime SP, to provide advanced imaging technology for clinicians.

The new system is designed to provide the right balance between image quality and decrease dose for any kind of patient, including paediatrics and bariatrics.

As the system can generate 160 unique slices per rotation with 0.35-second scanning, it minimises the time for diagnosis.

The accompanying aperture gantry and couch make the CT system suitable for emergency scanning or studies in bariatric patients.

Aquilion Prime SP is integrated with an optimised beam spectrum and PUREViSION Optics-based detector that allows up to 31% of the reduced dose and improved LCD for the body (22%) and brain (19%).

The CT system is said to aid in improving workflow through its 3 phase Variable Helical Pitch (vHP3) designed to combine gated and non-gated optimised SUREExposure and Helical Pitch settings within a single helical scan.

The system also includes SURECardio Helical Prospective that automatically adapts to the patient’s heart rate and helps in reducing the need for repeat scans.
