Bio-Rad Laboratories has launched a blood-based immunoassay kit to identify antibodies of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The company has established the assay’s preliminary performance and is carrying out the clinical evaluation in hospitals. As per the initial data from over 700 samples, the kit has shown specificity of over 99%. The company stated that the kit is capable of determining if any person has been infected and if an immune response is developed.

Patient Pattern has developed a free Frailty Risk Assessment Tool that can calculate a patient’s frailty and assist with Covid-19 triage. Frailty has been said to be better risk predictor for bad outcomes compared to age or diagnosis. The assessment provides the Frailty Risk Score of the individual along with the contributing factors and a brief summary of potential healthcare choices.

Biotech company Advaite has delivered its antibody rapid test kits for Covid-19 testing to Chester County Health Department in Pennsylvania. RapCov Rapid COVID-19 Test is an in vitro diagnostic test that detects the presence of IgG or IgM antibodies to the Covid-19 virus in human whole blood fingerstick samples collected in laboratories. The test displays the results in 15 minutes.

ivWatch has partnered with The Janz Corporation to distribute ivWatch technology to the US government. It is hoped the technology will help reduce drug dosing errors and IV related injuries during the Covid-19 pandemic, especially given the need to conserve personal protective equipment and reduce the exposure to clinicians. This technology is capable of detecting fluid or medication leakage into the surrounding tissue from the vein. It is the only device with FDA clearance that can gather and analyse infiltration data from tissues surrounding IV sites.
