CytoSMART donates 100 live imaging systems to Covid-19 researchers

By Chloe Kent

CytoSMART Technologies is to donate 100 mini live-cell imaging systems to researchers in high-containment labs across the globe.

The company’s compact live-cell microscope provides remote video access to living cell cultures, without disturbing their growth or behaviour. The device operates inside cell culture incubators and is accessible online, allowing researchers to analyse their cell cultures remotely.

This should allow researchers working in BSL-3 or BSL-4 laboratories – the highest biosafety levels for enclosed labs – to work on isolating and characterising the SARS-CoV-2 virus while entering the lab as little as possible.

CytoSMART CEO Joffry Maltha said: “The work of such labs is essential in the fight against Covid-19 and it’s important to us as an organisation to help where we can. This useful tool can support [researchers] in their hard work, by helping to save precious time and equipment by knowing exactly when to enter the lab.”
