Megvii deploys AI-powered temperature screening for Covid-19

By Chloe Kent

Artificial intelligence (AI) company Megvii has deployed an AI-enabled temperature screening system across multiple locations in China and overseas to protect essential personnel and communities as Covid-19 cases rise.

The temperature screening tech uses an optimised detection model to take the temperature of up to 15 people per second, with an accuracy level of ±0.3°C, and can do so from three metres away. The system triggers an alert when someone with high temperature passes by, indicating the individual should be screened manually or denied entry to a venue. It can be deployed in areas with high foot traffic like airports, subway stations and hospital lobbies.

A more compact version of the technology can be used to scan people from 0.3m to one metre away.
