LeeSar has awarded a contract to Aethon to supply its MedEx TraySafe product to streamline their medication tray and kit processing for improving safety and compliance of preconfigured trays used in crash carts.
TraySafe detects missing or expired items and makes the process faster and safer by detecting if items are misplaced in the tray.
LeeSar Pharmacy Services vice-president Ken Greco said: "We needed a solution that would meet all of our operational and safety requirements, but could also scale in a cost-effective way.
"Replenishing and managing trays is a labour-intensive process and is also demanding from a safety standpoint. As we look to add new hospitals, we needed to increase our efficiency, while still ensuring safety.
"We looked at other solutions, but TraySafe was the only solution that could meet all our requirements for efficiency, safety, compliance and affordability."
The next-generation kit and tray management solution uses industry standard 2D labels and ultra-high resolution imaging instead of using expensive and proprietary radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags to detect the contents in a tray in seconds.
Aethon CEO Aldo Zini said: "Aethon has a long history of delivering software and hardware products to manage hospital pharmacy logistics.
"TraySafe is an extension of that expertise, and working with LeeSar is an ideal partnership for Aethon and our TraySafe product."
According to its manufacturer, TraySafe improves inventory control through lot and expiration date traceability, while quickly and accurately addressing scheduled and ad-hoc audits.
