NEC Display Solutions obtains FDA 510(k) clearance for MD242C2 medical diagnostic monitor

NEC Display Solutions of America has obtained the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) market clearance for its 24in MultiSync MD242C2 referral-grade, widescreen display, designed for the needs of healthcare professionals in medical imaging and PACS.

This 2.3-megapixel model has an IPS panel to provide precise colour reproduction and wide viewing angles and an integrated front sensor which constantly monitors and adjusts brightness to maintain the factory DICOM GSDF calibration.

In addition, the display includes out-of-the-box calibration to the DICOM grayscale display function for luminance.

The MD242C2 also includes a human presence sensor that can automatically dim the screen to conserve power, a Quick QA function for checking DICOM conformance without a computer and its stand has four-way ergonomic functionality, including height-adjust, swivel, tilt and pivot.

NEC Display Solutions Professional and Medical Displays product manager Art Marshall said the MD242C2 diagnostic display is the latest in the NEC MultiSync Medical Series to receive the necessary FDA market clearance designation.

"Healthcare professionals, in turn, have a fully-featured review display that is able to keep pace with their rigorous work requirements," Marshall said.

The MD242C2 display offers a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 1920 x 1200 native resolution, and 180cd/m2 of calibrated brightness.

According to the company, the display meets the needs of healthcare facilities requiring consistent and accurate medical imaging using PACS.

The display also offers DisplayPort, DVI-D, HDMI and VGA inputs, plus a built-in three-port USB Hub with DisplaySync Pro.

The MD242C2 feature set includes 24in IPS panel factory calibrations to the DICOM grayscale function for luminance.

It also includes GammaCompMD QA software for worry-free calibration and conformance testing to the DICOM standard.

The monitor also features an integrated three port USB 2.0 hub with DisplaySync Pro, which easily connects to peripherals and displayPort, DVI-D, HDMI and VGA inputs.

The MD242C2 provides 150mm height adjustability in landscape orientation (103mm in portrait), as well as pivot, tilt and swivel.

The system has also cleared medical certifications, including UL60950-1, UL60601-1 with FDA 510(k) clearance.

The MultiSync MD242C2 has a five-year limited warranty with Advanced Overnight Exchange and is available at an recommended retail price of $1,899.
