Precision Spine, a US-based spinal device company, has launched its Slimplicity solo anterior cervical plate system, which recently received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration.
Slimplicity solo is designed for anterior cervical fixation to the cervical spine C2-C7 for indications including degenerative disc disease, trauma (including fractures), tumours, deformity (such as kyphosis or scoliosis), pseudarthrosis, failed previous fusion, spondylolisthesis and spinal stenosis.
The new anterior cervical plate system, which consists of one and two level plates and 4.5mm fixed and variable screws, is designed to accommodate a visual locking confirmation with a secure locking mechanism, and provides an ergonomic colour-coded instrument set.
While the narrow footprint and low profile of Slimplicity solo are designed to reduce strap muscle dissection and dysphagia, its single, larger diameter screw-plate construct enables stability and provides quicker implantation.
Precision Spine president Rich Dickerson said the company's ongoing focus on product development continues to bring it outstanding new product offerings.
"We feel that the national launch of the Slimplicity solo system gives surgeons an exciting, new fixation system for the cervical spine," Dickerson said.
"It offers potential benefits over existing, traditional cervical plating systems and will have applications in the expanding same-day surgery market segment."
Precision Spine has recently introduced an array of advanced spinal solutions, including the ReForm deformity system and the Mini-Max ULIF minimally invasive access system.
The company says Slimplicity solo can be used by surgeons for treating one and two-level disease.
According to GlobalData estimates, the spinal plating systems market in the US was $1.01bn in 2012 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 2.2% to reach $1.17bn by 2019.
