Activa Healthcare, a UK-based woundcare company, has introduced a new app for smartphones and tablets that enables nurses and pharmacists to easily evaluate which compression hosiery is the most appropriate for a patient.

The company claims that this is the first compression hosiery selector app to assess what size of hosiery is required.

Medical professionals will first need to enter patient measurements, from which the app will calculate the required size and guide them through the options in the Activa British Standard, ActiLymph and Activa hosiery kits and liners ranges.

The app will showcase photographs of common venous leg conditions and will recommend the right range of Activa compression hosiery for that condition.

This app, which is available for free, is designed for nurses making home visits and medical professionals without computer access.

The app can be downloaded from Apple's App Store, the Windows Phone Marketplace, Google Play and BlackBerry App World.

The company, however, has stressed that the sizer should not be seen as replacement for a complete holistic evaluation, which should comprise a Doppler ultrasound and a visual assessment to determine a patients' suitability for compression hosiery.
