Surgical products developer Ansell has announced the availability of its non-latex antimicrobial surgical glove in Canada.
Coated with antimicrobial chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG), the Gammex non-latex surgical glove is effective against 99% of the Hepatitis C virus, HIV-1 strain Mn and six common infectious bacteria including drug-resistant methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
The non-latex glove, in addition to protecting against latex (Type I) allergies, provides protection against microbial transmission caused by intraoperative glove breaches with its AMT technology.
Ansell Medical Solutions president and general business manager Anthony Lopez said the Gammex non-latex antimicrobial surgical glove has been developed in anticipation of healthcare workers’ needs.
"Our relentless focus on innovation is evident in the new products and technologies we launch aimed at providing the utmost protection for healthcare workers and patients alike," Lopez said.
The company has also developed the Gammex Powder-Free surgical glove using its AMT antimicrobial technology.
The non-latex surgical glove is an investigational device and is not available for sale outside of Canada.
In addition to medical gloves, the company operates three businesses including industrial solutions, specialty markets and sexual wellness.
