Global medical technology company Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) has unveiled its new line of surgical instrument sterilisation containers which are validated for the latest low-temperature sterilisation processes.

The new technology will be commercially available later in this year.

The Genesisâ„¢ low-temperature rigid sterilisation container system can be used for low-temperature sterilisation processes and systems from market-leading steriliser manufacturers, including the V-PRO low-temperature sterilisation systems from Steris and Sterrad Systems from Advanced Sterilisation Products (ASP).

"Our new containers have the same trusted functionality that our customers in the sterile processing department have come to expect, but they have been validated for today’s latest low-temperature processes."

Low-temperature sterilisation is an evolving practice in sterile processing and is used for instrumentation that cannot endure high-temperature and moisture present in traditional steam sterilisation practices.

BD Infection Prevention, V. Mueller and Interventional Specialties worldwide vice-president and general manager Jim Leitl said: "Our new containers have the same trusted functionality that our customers in the sterile processing department have come to expect, but they have been validated for today’s latest low-temperature processes.

"We will continue to extend our leadership in sterilisation containers and surgical instrumentation through innovations that positively impact both clinical and financial outcomes."

The new containers features a visually different set of orange components which enables a quick and easy categorisation from the Genesis containers indented for other sterilisation processes.

It is claimed to offer protection for a longer duration and sterility maintenance for surgical instrumentation.

Genesis containers are offered in a range of sizes to help streamline and secure instruments before surgery. Genesis containers also provide an environmentally friendly alternative to sterilisation wrap.
