Spinal device company K2M has launched its Venado foam strips and Venado granules bone graft systems for the treatment of complex spinal pathologies and for minimally invasive procedures.

Venado foam strips are purified fibrillar collagen and biphasic granules that will hydrate in blood or saline, becoming flexible and moldable.

Upon migration of the bone cells into the graft composite, the implant functions as a scaffold for osteogenic components.

"Venado foam strips are purified fibrillar collagen and biphasic granules that will hydrate in blood or saline, becoming flexible and moldable."

A biphasic combination of hydroxyapatite and beta-tricalcium phosphate, Venado granules features resorption characteristics.

Georgetown University Hospital associate professor and neurosurgeon Dr Faheem Sandhu said; "Venado provides for synthetic bone graft alternatives for hospitals and surgeons interested in a non-allograft solution to the management of complex spinal surgical issues, and these unique products complement and enhance K2M’s already comprehensive and innovative spine portfolio."

The launch of new Venado product family expands the company’s US biologics portfolio that includes Vikos allograft systems and Vesuvius osteobiologic systems.

All the systems designed for bone regeneration enhancement and osteogenic stimulus after spine surgery are supplied by the company in a range of configurations and sizes.

K2M president and CEO Eric Major said; "The launch of Venado enables us to meet a significant demand for the high quality products surgeons have come to expect from K2M."
