Technology giant Samsung Electronics‘ subsidiary Samsung Electronics America has purchased Massachusetts-based computed tomography (CT) company NeuroLogica as part of a move expand its medical imaging business.
The acquisition forms part of Samsung’s ‘Vision 2020’ plan to become a major medical technology company and a top five global brand by the year 2020.
NeuroLogica develops commercial portable medical imaging products used for CT scanning, including BodyTom and CereTom.
The battery powered, full body, 32-slice BodyTom provides high-quality CT images in the clinic, ICU, OR and emergency / trauma departments, according to NeuroLogica.
The 8-slice small bore CereTom delivers high-quality non-contrast angiography, and contrast perfusion scans for radiology departments, ICU / NICU / SICU / MICU, and neuro interventional radiology and maxillofacial surgical suites.
Under the acquisition, Samsung will leverage its global brand awareness and technology in consumer electronics, IT and communications with NeuroLogica to expand the medical imaging business.
The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
