US-based medical technology company Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) has introduced the BD Vacutainer UltraTouch Push Button Blood Collection Set in the UK.
It is a new safety blood collection set, which is based on the company’s patented PentaPoint Comfort 5-bevel needle technology that helps improve patient experience during the blood collection procedure.

The technology has earlier been used in the BD Pen insulin injection needles and exhibited reduced risk of pain caused due to injection by creating a flatter, thinner surface for a convenient skin penetration.
BD UK and Ireland vice-president and general manager Mike Fairbourn said: "Phlebotomy is often one of the first procedures hospital patients undergo and it can set the tone for their entire experience.
"The combination of BD’s latest technology will both reduce patient pain and improve clinicians’ ability to access difficult veins, enhancing the experience for all involved.

It allows the clinicians to choose a smaller gauge needle to gain access to difficult veins without risking sample quality or tube-fill time.
Both the BD RightGauge and BD PentaPoint technologies have been instrumental in allowing the BD Vacutainer UltraTouch Push Button Blood Collection Set to achieve a decreased penetration forces by up to 32%.
The device also offers proven protection to healthcare professionals performing the blood draw procedures from costly needlestick injuries, with its split-second in-vein retractable safety needle.
