Hologic launches new imaging system for breast biopsy in US
Hologic has commercially launched the Brevera breast biopsy system with CorLumina imaging technology in the US to improve workflow and patient experience.
The breast biopsy and verification system is designed to allow real-time imaging and accurate biopsy by delivering the required information to make informed decisions.
Combining real-time imaging with tissue acquisition, sample verification, and advanced post-biopsy handling, the Brevera system can be used for two-dimensional (2D) and 3D biopsy.
The system is intended to enable fast and efficient procedures to save costs and enhance patient experience, unlike lengthy stereotactic breast biopsy procedures that might make a patient anxious and uncomfortable.
Brevera’s ability to facilitate collection and imaging of tissue samples within a few seconds is estimated to save around 10 minutes per patient and reduce the procedure time by approximately 25%.
Hologic Breast and Skeletal Health Solutions division president Pete Valenti said: "The Brevera system provides clinicians with more information at the point of care and women with a vastly improved experience, resulting in significant cost and time savings without compromising accuracy or patient health outcomes.
“The system transforms the stereotactic breast biopsy procedure as we know it, and serves as further proof of Hologic's commitment to better serve the needs of our customers and their patients."
The CorLumina imaging technology of the Brevera system automates tissue sample collection and separation process, improving workflow.
The system also includes PACS integration to allow advanced image sharing and transfer of patient records.
Brevera can be used with other existing standard and prone systems, including Hologic's Affirm prone biopsy system, Affirm breast biopsy guidance system, and MultiCare Platinum system.
