United Imaging, a medical imaging and radiotherapy equipment maker, has secured the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its uMR Jupiter 5 tesla (5T) MRI system.

It is claimed to be the first ultra-high field system approved for whole-body applications. The system is also the first of any field strength to be equipped with an eight-channel whole-body multi-transmit system.

United Imaging chairman and co-CEO Dr Al Zhang said: “For decades, whole body applications above 3T have been elusive, and this system was targeted to open those doors. uMR Jupiter breaks new ground and defines a new technical category of systems.”

The uMR Jupiter 5T MRI system is said to transcend the traditional limitations of ultra-high-field imaging.

United Imaging asserts that this system provides clinicians with the ability to observe anatomical structures with clarity and in detail.

The system’s ultra-high-field magnet strength enhances resolution and signal-to-noise ratio, which could significantly improve diagnostic accuracy, claimed the company.
