Both are intended for use in the operating room, addressing the needs of healthcare professionals for wound management solutions.

These grafts are composed of full-thickness fish-skin processed by the company’s ‘EnviroIntact’ method, ensuring the skin retains its natural elements such as fat, protein, elastin, and glycans that are available in an array of sizes and shapes.

Indications for this fish-skin graft range from abrasions, lacerations, and skin tears to donor site grafts, post-Mohs surgery, podiatric applications, dehiscence, and post-laser surgery.

Kerecis founder and CEO Fertram Sigurjonsson said: “Applying Kerecis fish-skin to a surgical or trauma wound is a multi-step process that often requires supporting products such as sutures, staples, surgical tapes, contact layers, and wound-dressings.

“The new SurgiClose Silicone product combines the fish-skin with a silicone-contact layer and thus eliminates the need for one of the supporting products. This makes the workflow in the surgical theater simpler and more cost effective.”

The company claims that its fish-skin grafts are known for their low disease-transfer risk between cold-water fish and humans, which allows for minimal processing and retention of the skin’s natural structure.

This results in the preservation of the skin’s strength and complexity, including important molecules like fatty acids.

Clinical studies have demonstrated that the company’s products facilitate ‘faster’ wound healing compared to competitors.

The product portfolio of Kerecis includes Shield, SurgiClose, GraftGuide, SurgiBind, and MariGen, each tailored for specific medical applications.

In a recent expansion of its product line, the company introduced Shield Spiral, in July this year for wound management.
