Philips has introduced the helium-free 3.0T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) innovation platform, BlueSeal Horizon, at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 2025.
The 3.0T MRI systems’ advanced magnet technology enables detailed imaging of structures such as blood vessels, the brain, muscles, and joints.

Philips noted that these systems can capture intricate anatomical details and support a variety of clinical and research needs.
Since 2018, the company has focused on the development of helium-free MRI technology. It has installed more than 2,000 1.5T BlueSeal MRI systems globally, resulting in a reduction of over six million litres of liquid helium usage.
With the introduction of the helium-free 3.0T MRI, Philips aims to remove the requirement for helium refills and vent pipes, which is expected to reduce installation complexity, installation times, and overall lifecycle risk.
Philips plans to integrate clinical AI into routine use through its new BlueSeal Horizon MR platform, aiming to streamline workflows, improve diagnostic accuracy, and increase accessibility to advanced imaging.

By GlobalDataThe platform will feature several AI-powered innovations, such as SmartPlanning, now expanded to cardiac imaging, which will automate planning steps that previously required multiple manual actions, enabling automated planning in as little as 30 seconds.
Real-time Scan Preview, which uses NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platform and Open Models, is designed to provide faster 3D image reconstruction, denoising, and artefact decrease, allowing radiologists to preview and adjust scans in real time.
The SmartSpeed Precise dual AI technology is expected to deliver scans up to three times quicker and up to 80% sharper images.
SmartReading will allow the direct integration of cloud-based AI reading and reporting tools on the MRI system, with a focus on oncology and neurology applications.
Philips MR business leader Ioannis Panagiotelis said: “With BlueSeal Horizon we’re freeing MRI from dependence on a valuable resource the world can’t replace and bringing advanced diagnostic capabilities to people previously out of reach.
“But more than that, BlueSeal Horizon is an entirely new 3.0T innovation platform that combines breakthroughs in hardware with AI-powered software, eliminating the trade-off between imaging speed and precision and improving outcomes for both practitioners and patients.”
Recently, Philips introduced a new image management system featuring a web-based imaging viewer, aiming to enhance the way radiologists access and interpret medical images.
