ARUP Laboratories has launched the clinical CLARISPECT Multiple Myeloma MRD by Spectral Flow Cytometry assay for multiple myeloma (MM).
The test will provide detailed minimal residual disease (MRD) profiling for patients with this condition.

It is designed to characterise small neoplastic cell populations and is intended to deliver higher sensitivity compared to conventional flow cytometry methods.
This enhances the detection of deep MRD in MM patients.
ARUP haematopathology clinical operations head Madhu Menon said: “We are harnessing a technology that’s relatively new in the diagnostic space.
“By offering a superior technique with higher sensitivity, we will directly impact a subset of patients who otherwise would not have been identified as MRD-positive.
“We will be able to detect the reemergence of disease at an earlier timepoint, which will then facilitate more informed decisions at an earlier timepoint.”
MRD assessment is considered important for evaluating treatment outcomes and is linked to risk stratification and prognosis, as the amount of residual disease relates to the likelihood of relapse.
Spectral flow cytometry works by collecting emission data across the entire light spectrum, enabling simultaneous analysis of more than 40 markers.
The multiple myeloma assay specifically will assess 18 markers in a single tube configuration, which reduces the required specimen volume.
It identifies very low levels of residual disease, capable of detecting 14 neoplastic cells in a population of five million analysed cells with 95% confidence.

ARUP Laboratories has more than 40 years’ experience in diagnostic medicine and plans to further expand its MRD spectral flow cytometry testing suite.
In February 2025, Tasso and ARUP formed a collaboration for developing and ‘operationalising’ at-home, blood testing services, offering support to clinical research.
