bioAffinity Technologies has collaborated with Pictor to develop and commercialise new diagnostic tests for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
The partnership aims to provide a broader assessment of lung inflammation in affected patients by integrating expertise in flow cytometry and targeted proteomic analysis.

Under the agreement, bioAffinity Technologies’ knowledge in differentiating and quantifying immune cell populations in sputum will be combined with Pictor’s proteomic platform to analyse cytokine profiles and immune cell populations linked to airway inflammation.
The resulting high-throughput laboratory test will support physicians in identifying inflammatory pathways relevant to each patient.
It is also expected to assist in decisions regarding advanced therapies such as US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved biologics and new targeted treatments.

The new tests under development expand on bioAffinity Technologies’ approach using sputum analysis, which also supports its currently available noninvasive test, CyPath Lung, used by clinicians to assess pulmonary nodule malignancy risks.
They are expected to be introduced initially as Laboratory Developed Tests under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
Intellectual property arising from the collaboration related to the asthma and COPD testing platform will be owned by bioAffinity Technologies, while Pictor will retain rights to its own platform technology and any inventions related to its proteomic system.
