Abbott and Google Health have entered a multi-year collaboration aimed at bringing ongoing glucose monitoring and AI-driven health guidance to users of the Google Health app.

The partnership will see data from Abbott’s Lingo biowearable integrated with software and technology developed by Google Health, allowing users to access a more comprehensive view of their personal health.

As part of the agreement, the two companies plan to launch a large-scale research study to inform both Google Health’s AI-powered coaching features and the ongoing development of Lingo devices.

The study will incorporate continuous glucose, laboratory, wearable and survey data, with the goal of improving understanding of how activity, sleep, well-being and metabolic health are connected.

Abbott’s over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor, Lingo, is designed for adults who are not using insulin.

It enables users to track how factors such as nutrition, physical activity, sleep and stress affect their glucose levels.

By integrating Lingo’s glucose data with the Google Health app, the companies intend to provide users with more targeted and personalised health suggestions.

The Google Health Coach function will use these metabolic insights to deliver recommendations to help with habits around nutrition, activity, sleep and recovery.

The integration is expected to allow users to view their glucose data alongside other health and wellness metrics in a single experience within the app.

Last month, Abbott begun the TREAT TR study, to assess the safety and performance of its TriClip transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) system for patients with tricuspid regurgitation, also referred to as a leaky tricuspid valve.
