GE HealthCare has received a CE mark for its Photonova Spectra photon-counting computed tomography (CT) system.
This authorises the company to proceed with commercial activity in countries that recognise CE marking.

The development comes after clearance by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and regulatory approval in Japan in March 2026, signalling expanded reach for the technology across international markets.
Powered by GE HealthCare’s Deep Silicon detector technology, Photonova Spectra is designed to deliver ultra-high definition and on-demand spectral and spatial imaging.
The system is engineered to support clinicians in detecting, characterising and monitoring diseases, with the aim of improving efficiency and performance across a variety of clinical applications.
GE HealthCare global CT executive director Chad Rowland said: “We are proud to deliver this new generation of photon-counting CT to the clinicians and patients around the world it was intentionally designed to serve. At its core is our Deep Silicon detector technology, which enables Photonova Spectra to capture remarkably detailed, spectral information in every scan.

“Ultimately, this innovative technology was created to advance imaging as well as support the people who rely on it.”
Photonova Spectra is equipped for rapid image acquisition and is intended to simplify workflow through a universal, full-fidelity approach, reducing the need for multiple exam protocols.
The system manages data volumes up to 50 times greater than conventional CT, utilising Nvidia’s accelerated computing platform and compute unified device architecture-optimised reconstruction.
Clinical collaborations are underway to further evaluate the system’s capabilities.
UZ Brussel – Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium and Rigshospitalet in Denmark are working with GE HealthCare to assess Photonova Spectra across disciplines such as cardiology, neurology, oncology, and musculoskeletal imaging.
The CE mark follows more than $5bn in innovation investment by GE HealthCare. The company states that products resulting from these investments are expected to contribute to 1%-2% revenue growth across the portfolio.
In July, GE HealthCare and Catholic Health signed a ten-year strategic alliance valued at around $500m to expand access to precision diagnostics, advanced imaging, and AI-supported technology across the latter’s network in Long Island, US.
