US-based start-up Anitoa Systems has introduced a portable RT-PCR molecular test capable of detecting dengue virus infections.
The new test includes one of a family of four- to six-channel small foot-print real-time PCR instruments known as Maverick qPCR.

Maverick qPCR instruments are developed on Anitoa’s CMOS biosensor technology and are used for testing food, environment samples and agriculture products.
The dengue test solution also includes a one-step multiplex RT-PCR reagent in lyophilised format. These reagents do not require refrigeration.
The company is currently working to develop tests for neglected tropical diseases. The development of the dengue test is part of this programme.

According to the company, the dengue virus detection solution is capable of detecting several target genes in a sample. These genes are considered to be highly expressed in patients that develop serious symptoms in the later stages.

The company produces its qPCR instruments and test kits in Hangzhou, China, and Fremont, California.
