Israel-based artificial intelligence (AI) startups Beyond Verbal and Healthymize, which both make diagnoses through voice analyses, have merged operations to create an entity, Vocalis Health.

Furthermore, the merged entity raised $9m in a funding round led by Israeli life sciences venture capital firm aMoon.

Proceeds from the current round of investment will be used to enhance the voice database of Vocalis Health.

The two entities aim to secure regulatory clearances with a product launch slated for 2020.

Vocalis Health will focus on AI platform and voice analysis applications to monitor the health status of an individual.

Vocalis Health will allow the healthcare providers to track voice patterns through phone calls or smart devices to screen for several voice-affecting disorder, including chronic respiratory and cardiac conditions, as well as depression.

aMoon managing director Roy Wiesner said: “The merger of Beyond Verbal and Healthymize sets a precedent for early-stage start-ups in the Israeli market. We quickly realised the opportunity of combining forces by leveraging their joint datasets, pipelines, strengths and talents, to create a leader in the vocal biomarkers space.”

Currently, Vocalis Health is conducting two clinical trials, one recruiting 100 patients from Geisinger Health System. The experiment intends to collect voice samples and monitor them every day for six months.

Beyond Verbal president and CEO Tal Wenderow said: “Voice technology can passively and consistently monitor health and provide valuable information to our patients, providers and caregivers and positively impact the way we deliver health throughout the world.

“We have the unique opportunity to combine talents and deliver remarkable products, via collaborations with leading hospitals, payers and pharma companies. I am extremely excited to lead the combined company with Dr Shady Hassan as the company transitions to an early commercial stage.”
