A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11883281B2) discloses an assembly comprising a delivery catheter with a balloon and an implantable prosthetic heart valve that can be collapsed and expanded radially. The prosthetic heart valve includes an annular frame with commissure attachment posts and rows of angled struts, a leaflet structure with three leaflets, and an outer sealing member. The sealing member snugly fits around the frame, with an inflow end portion secured to the first row of struts and an outflow edge portion with triangular projections secured to a selected row of struts. The collapsed prosthetic heart valve can be mounted around the balloon and expanded inside a patient's body, providing a novel solution for heart valve replacement procedures.

The patent also includes additional claims related to the materials used in the frame, such as a plastically-expandable material like a nickel cobalt chromium alloy, and the configuration of the sealing member, which may comprise a fabric with a plush nap for better tissue contact. The assembly's design allows for axial stretching of the sealing member when the frame is compressed and features specific attachment methods for the inflow and outflow portions of the sealing member to different rows of angled struts. The unique design of the sealing member, with precisely twelve peaks and secure stitching along the entire length of the side edges, ensures a tight fit against the frame in the expanded configuration, enhancing the effectiveness of the prosthetic heart valve implantation process.
