A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11904164B2) discloses a system for delivering nanosecond pulsed electrical energy. The system includes a treatment controller, a nanosecond pulse generator, a handpiece subsystem, and an interface board with EMI-filtered, transient protected, and high-voltage isolation barriers. All power and communications between the nanosecond pulse generator and the handpiece subsystem or treatment controller pass through these barriers. The nanosecond pulse generator is designed with specific circuit sections that are electrically isolated from each other by multi-function isolation connections with a capacitance of 20 pF or less.

Moreover, the system involves a method for delivering nanosecond pulsed electrical energy, where system power and pulse generator power are provided from a system power supply to an interface board with high-voltage isolation barriers. User input is received through a treatment controller, and all communications to and from the nanosecond pulse generator are transmitted through the high-voltage isolation barriers of the interface board. The high voltage pulsed output is delivered to the handpiece through these barriers based on the user input, with additional steps to isolate and filter communications and system power to the handpiece subassembly. The nanosecond pulse generator is capable of providing high voltage pulsed output with specific voltage and current parameters, ensuring authenticity of the handpiece and treatment tip, and calculating critical pulse metrics from the output.
