Sorin Group, a global medical device company, has received European approval for its Inspire oxygenator system, designed for cardiopulmonary bypass procedures in adult patients.

Inspire oxygenators provide improved performance and flexibility, helping clinicians deliver quality patient care during cardiopulmonary bypass.

The Inspire technology will also incorporate complete modularity, allowing the improvement of manufacturing efficiency, as well as widening the variety of choices available for clinicians for the benefit of their patients.

Along with a heart-lung machine, an oxygenator system replaces the function of the lungs during cardiac surgery procedures.

Following CE mark approval, the company plans to start market assessment studies for Inspire in the first half of 2012.
