Biotronik has launched the Micro Rx catheter, a new device for enhancing guidewire support during percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), in the US.
The rapid exchange microcatheter is produced by Interventional Medical Device Solutions (IMDS) and exclusively distributed by Biotronik.

The Micro Rx catheter features a reinforced distal shaft with a core wire situated between two layers of braids, ensuring optimal push transfer.
It also features a tapered tip with a small tip leading edge for superior penetration force.
Furthermore, the device includes a Proximal-End-Stop designed for the seamless integration of a guide extension catheter, providing additional support when needed.

Biotronik plans to make available the Micro Rx catheter in Canada, starting next month.
The Micro Rx catheter design addresses the challenges of navigating through complex vascular anatomies, such as tortuous vessels and highly stenosed lesions.
Furthermore, the device’s user-friendly features aim to reduce the need for trapping, potentially decreasing the risk of vascular trauma and shortening the time patients spend in the catheterization lab.
Chandler Regional Medical Center and Mercy Gilbert Medical Center are some of the first users of the MicroRx catheter.
Chandler Regional Medical Center interventional cardiology director Dr Ashish Pershad said: It provides good support and has a low profile allowing for great tip “control for coronary guidewires in complex lesions. Not having to switch out your OTW catheter after you cross a difficult lesion is a huge convenience in an era where 190cm wires are the norm in most cath labs”.
