ETCO2 monitoring offers a breath-to-breath picture and continuous recording of ventilatory effort, endotracheal tube placement and respiratory status.

It is considered important for monitoring the respiratory status of patients during sedation procedures, including surgery, dental sedation, ambulatory and outpatient procedures, and emergency care.

Caretaker Finger-Cuff has been initially designed for the wireless monitoring of continuous non-invasive blood pressure (CNIBP) and vital signs. It secured the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance and the European CE-Mark.

The combination of Caretaker Finger-Cuff with ETCO2 is intended to facilitate the monitoring of critical elements in patients’ respiratory status.

The handheld device offers remote data display and reporting. A remote Caretaker tablet app displays the capnograph waveform and numeric ETCO2, fractional inspired carbon dioxide (FiCO2), respiratory rate and pulse oximetry.

Caretaker Medical president and CEO Jeff Pompeo said: “By adding CMI Health’s ETCO2 to our existing CNIBP and Vital Signs parameters, we answered the call of clinicians who asked for wire-free monitoring of this critical respiratory parameter during sedation procedures.”

Caretaker Finger-Cuff Patient Monitoring Platform comes with a sidestream nasal cannula that fits on the patient and analyses expired carbon dioxide during exhalation.

The cannula continuously streams data from the PC900B to the display platform, while the mainstream airway adapter can be used for intubated patients.

The Caretaker Medical is focused on developing cost-effective, wireless patient monitoring solutions.

Its wearable Caretaker4 monitor is meant for wireless, electrode-free, continuous monitoring of vital signs in real-time. It can be used at clinics, hospitals, during patient transport and at home.

Additionally, the device’s Pulse Decomposition Analysis technology uses a low-pressure finger cuff to measure CNIBP, heart rate and respiration rate, among other parameters.
